Applications open for County advisory group





TOWSON, MD - Baltimore County today announced a call for applicants to serve on the West Baltimore County Redevelopment Authority, a newly formed group that will be tasked with making recommendations to the County regarding opportunities to promote economic revitalization in western Baltimore County.


 Applications are open now and will remain open until May 1, 2024.


“Western Baltimore County is ripe for revitalization, and I’m confident that our efforts are again making this area a vibrant destination for residents and economic driver for the area,” said Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski. “We serve our communities best when we work together, and I encourage our residents and community stakeholders to join us at the table and add their voice to the authority so we can shape the future of this beloved region.”


 Following the passage of enabling legislation from the Maryland General Assembly, Baltimore County Council passed local legislation last year to create the West Baltimore County Redevelopment Authority which will convene individuals to make recommendations to the County regarding opportunities to acquire, develop, redevelop, or dispose of certain land or property area between Liberty Road, Baltimore National Pike, Rolling Road, and along the Baltimore City-Baltimore County boundary.


 “After the passage of the state legislation authorizing and county legislation creating the Western Baltimore County Redevelopment Authority, I am excited that we are now at the stage of organizing a talented team of residents who will help shape our community’s future,” said Maryland State Senator Charles Sydnor.


 “The West Baltimore County Redevelopment Authority was born from the public’s call for a fresh approach to redevelopment in the county,” said Baltimore County Councilman Pat Young. “The public’s participation in this new organization is vital to its success and I applaud the administration’s efforts to stand up the authority in a responsible way.”


 The West Baltimore County Redevelopment Authority will consist of 20 individuals: 11 members of the public and nine ex-officio members, including state and local legislative leaders, the County Administrative Officer, and a member appointed by the County Executive.


To be eligible to serve on the West Baltimore County Redevelopment Authority, individuals must be a resident of Councilmanic Districts 1, 2 or 4 in Baltimore County. Individuals may identify their Councilmanic district here.


 Residents who live or work within West Baltimore County with expertise in accounting, finance, banking, law, development, or real estate are encouraged to apply. Appointees will serve four-year terms.


 Individuals interested in serving on West Baltimore County Redevelopment Authority can apply here until May 1, 2024.
