The Maryland State Athletic Directors Association (MSADA) has named Smithsburg High School Athletic Director Ryan Myers the 2024 Maryland State Athletic Director of the Year. The award recognizes an athletic administrator who has significantly impacted the lives of students and used athletics to achieve progress in the social and cultural environment of the school and community.
Nominees for the award must be MSADA members and have received a District Athletic Director of the Year Award within the past three years. In 2023, Myers was recognized by the MSADA as the District 1A Athletic Director of the Year. He has served as the athletic director at Smithsburg High School since 2018. From 2016-2018, Myers served as the athletic director at South Hagerstown High School.
WCPS Superintendent of Schools David Sovine says, “I want to extend my congratulations to Mr. Myers for being recognized as the top athletic director in the state. Extracurricular activities, particularly athletics, provide students with the opportunity to learn skills that are important to success such as the value of teamwork, communication, and hard work. Mr. Myers exemplifies all those skills and is dedicated to each of the students, coaches, parents, and staff he encounters through his work. He represents his school and WCPS well.”
